"There are no guarantees that I will play at Inidan Wells - this could be a maximum of six weeks, but if it's treated properly everything should be fine and I should be back fairly quickly."
"Ever since I I came back from Australia I've been practising really hard but Tuesday was the last time I could practise.
"On Wednesday I couldn't get up anymore - and the next day I just wasn't in shape at all. I survived all the travelling from Australia to Dubai and into the practise routine again - but as you've heard now I can't play.
"It's a lung infection - it's the first time I've had it - breathing is difficult - I feel I am not fine, I'm still very tired and slow.
"The doctors say it's too serious for me to try - and that I should rest for at least two weeks - obviously I can't take any more chances."
'I'm hoping to be back for Indian Well,s' said the 16-time Grand Slam winner. 'But of course there are no promises.
'This is something that with proper treatment will be finished,'
'I've been taking it easy, relaxing as much as possible. My breathing is a bit difficult and everything feels a bit slow. I can't take any chances until I'm fit again.
'It could be better, it could be worse.'
'I want to get back in shape and get back on court again. Once I'm back I'll be OK again.'
Roger Federer, two times in a row you can't take part in the tournament in Dubai which is your second home.
Roger Federer: This hurts. I enjoy playing in Dubai, I like the people, the atmosphere, the tournament. When I got sick again I couldn't help thinking of my home tournament in Basel where I also had a streak of bad luck several years in a row. But I shouldn't force anything, I have to take this illness, the lung infection very seriously.
When did you notice for the first time that something was wrong?
In fact I tried to relax a lot after the Australian Open. I wanted to regain my strength, to put away the strain and stress. So an overexertion is out of the question. I practiced last Tuesday and then it started getting worse. I got chills, fever, extreme rib pain, I couldn't breathe normally anymore.
You still look tired.
Everything is a bit slower like in slow motion. I'm still tired even though I slowly get better. I hope that I'll still be able to get over this quickly.
This break from tennis might have a bad influence on the next months.
I don't think so. This illness doesn't have the characteristics of the mono from a couple of years ago where there was bigger uncertainty. I think that I'll be ready for the start of IW. It would mean that I am healthy and fit if I play there.
What exactly did the doctors prescribed and advised you?
Two weeks without any sports. This is not a thing to be trifled with. Then I'll start preparing for IW seriously but without overstraining. However as it's been already said a restart is only possible if the entire body gets the green light. The worst case prognosis is a six-week break. At least I have to take this into account.
Is the charity match in IW now in danger?
I'll do everything so that we can bring this event off. People in Haiti need urgently our help.
