5-7, 7-6(5), 6-2, 6-3
C'moooon!!!
Hamish McLachlan: Sunday you were in NY, you've gone via Dubai, kissed Mirka on the cheek, said G'day to the twins and now you're here, we appreciate the effort, it's a long way, Davis cup obviously means a lot to you
RF: It's been a long trip for sure, I had something similar once after the AO in 04, I had to play in Romania, I arrived wednesday night, so I almost made it here early. That was on clay, equally tough but I think this was a different type of challenge playing against Australia who has such great tradition in Davis Cup, and Lleyton one of the greatest players to have played the game and to play him on grass in Australia is one of the toughest challenges out there. It was definately one of the reasons why I came here. I'm happy I'm here, happy to be playing here and I hope it's gonna be a nice weekend.
HM: It's great to have you here. 2003, one of the epics of all time. Did you come for a bit of unfinished business with Lleyton?
RF: No, we've played plenty since then so... I'm not that kind of guy anyway that I need to get him back to sleep well at night when i've retired but it's definately nice playing a great champion like him, and Pat on the chair as well it's nice - I used to play against him, I never beat him so, - it was nice to see him as well and I really had a good time out on court today it was a very difficult match to play on this kind of a grass court but I'm happy I did well, I thought Lleyton did well so it was a good match.
HM: Pat leads you 3-0, we might get him to play you on Sunday icon_lol.gif About the first rubber, Stan won the first, lost in four, I assume he's pulled up well, he'll play doubles with you tomorrow?
RF: Normally yes, all depends on how he pulls up tomorow, same for me, same for Lleyton, you go day by day, but that's the plan and if it's not the case then we have other guys ready to go.
HM: Let's just talk about you for a moment, I know you don't like it (Roger laughs) but, Davis Cup eludes you, Olympic gold in singles eludes you, number one eludes you. If I said you could have no.1, gold medal in the singles next year, Davis Cup or another grand slam, which would you take?
RF: (Roger sighs, smiling) isn't that a great problem to have? It's not like choosing between a 1st and 2nd round in some small tournament. I'd probably pick another wimbledon crown or olympic gold next year at wimbledon. Any one of those is great, I've achieved more that I ever thought I would and that I'm still able to be playing, body's holding up so well, it's nice and same thing for Lleyton, he's the same age so it's nice to see him still playing.
HM: The girls in the clubhouse have asked me to ask you questions about Roger, not just tennis. Can I ask you questions about you?
RF: depends what they are
HM: If you could have 6 people for dinner at your house, dead or alive, who would they be?
RF: I don't know. I like hanging out with my friends, if they're famous great, but they don't need to be. My wife would have to be there with my kids, I'm a family guy, and my best friends, most of whom are here on the team and maybe the occasional guy I haven't met - Mandela, Mohammed Ali maybe...
HM: IF you could be no. 1 in the world in something else?
RF: In sport?
HM: Doesnt' have to be sport, it could be global leader
RF: No thank you! Any other sport, I'm fine with it - in Australia so maybe the best batsman
HM: We'll take you batting. Tell me, who looked better at the royal wedding, Pippa or Kater?
RF: (laughs) are you serious?! I've met Pippa, haven't met Kate, Pippa's obviously more famous now right? I thought looked gorgeous right? We moved our flight so my wife could watch the wedding, this was how important the wedding was in our household. I thought it was beautiful and they both looked great
HM: I've been asked by a young kid on the way in, to get Roger's autograph for him. He's given me the texta (gets it out of his pocket), I have nothing but my shirt so this kid's very lucky...
- Roger then signs Hamish's shirt, while he's wearing it... icon_lol.gif
Roger Federer ladies and gentlemen, one of the greats of all time, the Davis Cup is 1-1
