Roger Federer, what made the difference against Berdych?
He was looking for the attack and I wasn't that good in the defense. It's not that I played badly but I wasn't able to show my best tennis when I needed it.
You've almost always managed to beat Berdych. What was the difference now?
He played a little bit more consistently but most of all I am not happy with my performance. I couldn't play the way I wanted. I was hindered by slight discomfort in my back and thigh. This was frustrating.
What were the consequences?
I felt restricted when I played in defense. My legs weren't as strong as usual and therefore I played differently in the rallies. I couldn't build the points the way I wanted and this affected everything, also my mental state. I don't blame only the body. I still could play and serve with more than 200 km/h but all this played with my mind. That's why I took wrong decisions and I couldn't play freely.
When did the pain appear?
In Halle. I felt ok after the tournament and the fact that the pain came back when I was at Wimbledon surprised me. I was rattled when I felt the pain in my leg in the first week. When I started having problems with my back I was lucky that I had two days off. It was better against Melzer but it worsened against Berdych. Nevertheless I thought that I could win. In the course of a season you always have minor injuries and you hope that they won't start bothering you when it's important. Now it was important. It's a pity.
Were you particularly disappointed that you couldn't give everything?
I gave everything that I had and I can't blame myself. I would have my chances against Djokovic. When you go so far everything is possible. Then you don't need so much and you have "the pot in your hand". (I'm not sure about the meaning of this expression..)
After Paris you said that you could forget the loss quickly. How will it be with this one?
Right after Paris I played another tournament and was quickly distracted. Wimbledon will hurt more. I'll often think about this match in the coming weeks. But on the other hand it isn't fun to play in the conditions that I was lastly.
